Enough already with airport security...

I certainly understand that since 9/11 Airports have become more aware of security. As a frequent flyer (this year anyhow) I can appreciate most of the added procedures, but there is one recent policy that is bordering ridiculous. The ticketing of cars on the terminal recirculation road (see below) The airport alleges the policy has been in effect since 9/11 but they just this year have begun ticketing. WTF!

So what exactly is the risk of parking on this road?

  • To discourage terrorist bomb activity? Where the cars park is about as close to the terminal as I95. Not allowing cars to park is actual increasing the traffic in and around the terminal
  • To not have cars pulling on and off the shoulder and disrupting the flow of traffic around the airport?

I'm not exactly sure what their thinking is, but given the endless millions of dollars continuously spend for airport renovation, I think they could spare a few thousand dollars to build a small "rest stop" style parking lot to accommodate fifty cars or so in a "safe" area of the complex, at absolute least they should adopt the free first hour short term parking that other major airports have put into place.
